Legend will make a triumphant return to Springfield High.

By Hayden Wright

In the years since graduating from Springfield High School, John Legend has won an Oscar and 10 GRAMMY Awards. He’ll return to his Ohio hometown for the October 9 ribbon-cutting for a $2.5 million theater renovated and named in his honor: the John Legend Theater. Legend raised $500,000 for the project, which will be a site for local high school students to dabble in music and theater arts.

“John was really a catalyst to get something that we all wanted to do finally done,” says Kim Fish of the local school board. She added that the project has been 10 years in the making.

“Students learn so much by either being in performances, behind the scenes doing technical theater, it’s just a great place for students to explore their passions and grow,” she says.

Legend’s performance will have limited access, with 200 wristbands available to the public and some seats allocated to friends, donors, staff members, and community partners.
