Natasha Bedingfield on Re-Recording 'Unwritten'

Bedingfield returns to the Underground Lounge with her first album in 9 years

July 29, 2019

Pop artists come and go so fast that sometimes, a short hiatus can turn into a decade in the blink of an eye.

That's why so many Mix 94.1 fans were so thrilled to finally get new music from Natasha Bedingfield, nine years after her last album.

The 37-year-old artist, who took some time off after 2010's Strip Me, returns with Roll with Me -- and stopped by the Mix 94.1 Underground Lounge to meet the fans and play some of the new songs.

While debuting tracks off the album (set to be released Aug. 30), Bedingfield is of course best known for her 2004 smash "Unwritten," a song made even more popular by its use as the theme song to MTV's hit reality show "The Hills."

With a relaunched version of the show back on MTV, Bedingfield told Mix 94.1's Heather Collins that she was intrigued by the chance to not just remix, but fully re-record her signature song as the revival's updated theme.

"This song keeps meaning different things," Bedingfield said.  "My baby is a year and a half and I feel now, wow, the future is unwritten for me. It's a whole new identity -- and for him too!"

The engaging Bedingfield also talked about recording her new album, working with famed producer Linda Perry (4 Non Blondes) as well balancing that work following the birth of her first child Solomon in 2017.

In addition to a soaring version of "Unwritten" and fellow hit "Pocketful of Sunshine," Bedingfield also rolled out new "Roll with Me" songs "Roller Skate" as well as the sing-along welcoming "Kick It."

After the set, Bedingfield was only too glad to stick around, meet and take pictures with the happy Underground Loungers.
