Joel McHale’s Fantasy Football Team Is So Much Cooler Than Yours

The Comedian Talks to Mix 94.1's Morning Show About What's Keeping Him Busy This Week

Let’s be real. Fantasy football is not for everyone.

While some dedicated fantasy players will never give up the thrill of annual draft parties, weekly smack-talking on text message threads and year-end championship ceremonies, there remains a segment of football fandom that’s still wondering, “What’s the point?”

Count comedian Joel McHale among those in the latter category. He’s a fan of fantasy, just not the football variety.

“I have fantasies about [players], you know, having spaceships and flying through space, killing huge space beasts,” the comedian jokes.

During an appearance on Mix 94.1’s “Mercedes in the Morning” show, McHale – who serves as Master of Ceremonies for Las Vegas’ Rise Up Gala benefiting the Tyler Robinson Foundation -- admits that, “for whatever reason, [fantasy football] is not in my wheelhouse.”

“People got mad at me when we were playing,” he says. “They’re like, ‘You have a number of players that are injured and you have them starting.’

“I’m like, ‘I can do anything I want, it’s my fantasy.’ I don’t care, I just want the Seahawks to win.”

Rather then focus on football, McHale is busy preparing for his emcee duties ahead of the September 14 gala at Caesars Palace, a gig that came about through his friendship with Imagine Dragons singer and Tyler Robinson Foundation booster Dan Reynolds.

“They’re way too nice for as big a band as they are,” McHale says of Imagine Dragons. “They just need to turn into David Crosby and start trashing hotel rooms.”

The 2018 Rise Up Gala, featuring a live performance by Imagine Dragons, will be streamed live on the Tyler Robinson Foundation website on Friday, September 14.
