Jimmie Allen Lists His 4 Biggest Musical Influences

The "Best Shot" singer celebrates a birthday -- and talks his musical heroes

June 19, 2019

Jimmie Allen is the epitome of the best of new country: humble, engaging, fan-centric and just an all-around good guy.

The Delaware-born singer-songwriter swung by Mix 94.1 to play an Underground Lounge session...and had a happy crowd of Mix contest winners thrilled with his personability as well as some damn fine performing!

After a spirited version of his most current single "Make Me Want To," Jimmie and Mix 94.1's Heather Collins bonded over their mutual love of Rob Thomas and Matchbox 20.

In fact, Jimmie included Matchbox 20 in his list of four acts that were central to his musical evolution. With his steady ascent to music business stardom, it's no surprise many of his childhood heroes are now among his friends...even though he admits he occasionally has a tough time wrapping his head around that! Check out the video above for his list.

That led to a cover of the Matchbox 20 hit "Unwell," followed by a tender performance of a new song, the love-through-the-ages ballad "Still On Fire."

And with Allen celebrating his birthday the day before his Underground Lounge appearance, you knew we couldn't let the session end by without passing along Mix's own happy birthday wishes!

After a gorgeous rendition of his biggest hit "Best Shot," Jimmie was more than happy to hang around, chat and take pictures with all the excited Underground Lounge crowd.
